Hip Pain

Hip Bursitis (Greater Trochanteric Bursitis)

Hip Bursitis (Greater Trochanteric Bursitis) – Hip Bursitis, sometimes referred to as Greater Trochanteric Bursitis, is an inflammation of the fluid-filled sac that lies between the hip bone and the iliotibial band (ITB). This condition can cause pain on the outer side of the hip, particularly with direct pressure over the inflamed bursa.

Hip Bursitis can be caused by a multitude of factors including tightness of the ITB, heavy activity such as running, or direct trauma to the hip.

Treatment may consist of rest, ice, physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medications, and corticosteroid injections.
